Picker Cover Letter

Movement of goods from one place to another involves two kinds of responsibilities. First, is the packing of goods, and second is picking of goods. Goods might be packed at the manufacturer's place, and the one who needs these goods would get it picked up from someone. Also, in case of courier services, they provide special service, wherein the customer can order for a courier pick up. Besides this, organizations have people employed, who go and pick up files, documents, payment checks, etc., from the customers, business associates, etc., of the organization. In warehouses, the Order Picker is a very essential position. Amongst all the different requirements mentioned above, an Order Picker is utmost important in a warehouse, to facilitate smooth functioning of the warehouse. The above-mentioned job responsibilities are quite simple, and can be optional for an organization. However, in a warehouse, a Picker has to be very responsible and attentive. The job responsibilities of the same would be discussed later, which will give you a deep insight in this job profile. However, if one wishes to apply for this position, a picker cover letter sent along with the resume would help him/her fetch the job.

Job Description:

The role of an order picker is slightly complicated in a warehouse. To begin with, there are two kinds of picking - list picking and voice order picking.

In the first one, the picker gets a list, and he has to pick up goods and place it in the pallet as per the list. In the second one, the Picker gets a headphone with a receiver, and at the other end, the concerned person speaks up the products to be picked.

Depending upon the size of the organization, or the products manufactured, the Picker would get a manual truck or an electric truck. The electric truck is far more convenient because the Picker will not have to drag the loaded truck manually.

Moreover, some organizations have picking norms, which define the number of goods or orders to be picked by the Picker in an hour. The Picker, has to comply with this norm, and after 2-3 warnings, he/she is fired.

Thus, there are no specific skills required for this job, but the person should be able to read and write, and be quick in responding to the instructions. Driving an electric truck is not difficult, and if you are not familiar with the same, you would be taught to operate it.

After knowing the role and responsibility associated with this position, the applicant should try to prove his/her eligibility for the said position in the cover letter that he/she sends along with the resume. The sample picker cover letter given below would help one write a cover letter for his/her resume.

Dear Mr. Thompson,

I am Ruth Cross, and I have recently completed my high school education. I read the advertisement posted in Times Today, dated January 19, 2012, and wish to apply for the post of Order Picker, in your organization.

I do not have any prior work experience, but I wish to work, to support my living and studies. I would opt for distance education, and I wish to earn and be independent. The advertisement read that candidates with no experience can also apply, and so, I have enclosed my resume for this job. I read the job role and responsibilities, and believe that I can perform the same with ease and efficiency. Although I do not know to drive an electric truck, but I know it is easy to operate, and ensure that I would not take more than an hour or two to get familiar with the same. I am a fast learner, and thus would meet the job requirements with ease.

I request you to consider my resume for this post, and call me for an interview. Give me a chance to prove myself, and I assure that I won't disappoint you.

Looking forward to meet you.

Thank you.
